In order to improve accessibility of a user
to up-to-date geo-spatial data (feature data) or information
(processed data or map products) on district
databases of NRDMS, potential of web/ communication technologies
has been put to use. With the ever-increasing use of Internet
and mobile devices, organisations are now capable of providing
spatial data/ information to users through Geo-web Services. Wide
user accessibility to such services is dependent on adoption of
Geospatial Interoperability standards by the data/ information
providing agencies. A prototype based on Open Geospatial Consortiums
(OGCs) Web Feature Service (WFS) and Web Map Service (WMS)
specifications has been developed to demonstrate the concept of
standards-based Geo-Web Service. Capable of storing the data sets
in a Relational Database, the Prototype serves the feature data
on the web using Geography Mark up Language (GML) format of OGC
and a map product in JPEG/ GIFF formats displayable in a standard
browser like MS IE or Mozilla Firefox. Efficiency in delivery
of feature data or map products could be significantly improved
by providing web-based feature or map service. [Research Agency:
